new york city trip

Taking the bus to enjoy the many attractions of September in Manhattan is a wise decision by any standard. The weather is magnificent and features some of the best days of the year, and there are festivals galore that take advantage of the near-perfect weather. The benefits of taking the bus include lower energy usage per passenger than any other type of transportation. The convenience of bus travel allows group travelers to move around, enjoy excellent internet access and travel in roomy seats where anyone has enough room to be comfortable.

Buses are safer than most people think. The National Safety Council reports that buses are 170 times safer than a passenger vehicle. That means for each bus accident, there are 170 vehicle accidents. If people take the bus, there are fewer cars on the road and safer travel for everyone.

The events include end-of-summer celebrations and early fall events such as street fairs, the Broadway season, parades and more. Everything comes to life in New York when the weather cools and regular businesses prepare for the fall season. Five great reasons to visit New York in September include:

1. West Indian Day Parade

The West Indian Day Parade, which is located along Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, is easy to get to by subway, which runs on a holiday schedule for Labor Day. The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 2, 2019. The festivities actually start with J’Ouvert which is a break of day event that starts at 6:00 a.m. The parade and carnival festival celebrate Caribbean culture and includes astonishing food and attracts more than 2 million people.

Skins, feathers and sequins figure prominently in the colorful costumes, and the music performances celebrate the cultures of Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Barbados and other Caribbean islands.

Revelers also wear costumes that include celebrity impersonations, political figures and more. Food vendors offer some of the most celebrated foods from different Caribbean cultures. Traveling by car, however, would be a nightmare because of the street closings and traffic.

2. New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week, which is sponsored by The SOCIETY, provides an unforgettable experience for fashionistas, designers, small boutique owners and others in the fashion industry. The event runs from September 5th to September 8th, and visitors can enjoy the creations of top fashion designers, various kinds of entertainment and production demonstrations at the Andaz Hotel on Wall Street and the runway location at the Broad Street Ballroom at 41 Broad Street.

3. The Feast of San Gennaro 2019

The Feast of San Gennaro 2019 is an 11-day celebration that’s held in Manhattan’s Little Italy to honor Naples’ patron saint. The celebration runs from September 12th through September 22nd, and the events includes parades and traditional Italian-American street food such as pizza, sausages, fried dough, torrone cookies, cannoli and sausage-and-pepper sandwiches.

There are cooking demonstrations and plenty of live music. The Feast of San Gennaro first began in Little Italy in 1926 along Mulberry Street. The festival is held today along Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston. The area is decorated in red, white and green, the colors of the Italian flag, and events include a cannoli-eating contest and live music each night beginning at 7:30 p.m.

4. The Coney Island Film Festival

The Coney Island Film Festival runs from September 13th through September 15th.
